Why You Should Belize It

1. Reasonable Travel Time
A flight from the midwestern part of the US to Belize City is approximately 6 hours, which is great for an international flight and geographically makes sense. My flight to Belize departed in the early morning. My first day on vacation was basically only an evening because I spent the whole day traveling. If I had to do it over again, I'd get an overnight flight so that I'd have a full first day to explore Belize. In other words, you can arrange your travel time so that you can maximize your first day of vacation.
2. Easy Communication
The national language in Belize is English. Many of the people I met also spoke Spanish and Creole with African influences. If you're from an English speaking country, then it's very easy to get around and communicate. Locals are very kind and willing to help. My first night in Belize, my friends and I went out to dinner and had no idea that by 10pm, all the water taxis back to the resort closed. As we were wandering through the town trying to figure out what we should do, we ran into a friendly face from the restaurant where we had dinner. Despite him being tired from a long day at work, he rode his bike alongside us to get us to other means of transportation. Ultimately, he didn't have to do that and I could chalk it up to him having great character, but we received that same kindness from other locals as well.

4. Tropical Weather & Island Vibes
The weather is perfection, especially if you're there in early March. During the day, the temperature is in the mid 80s Fahrenheit. In the evening, it cools down enough to wear long sleeves or a light jacket comfortably. If it rains, it typically doesn't rain for long and it won't interrupt your plans for the day. If you find accommodations in San Pedro, then you'll have the opportunity to take water taxis, short flights with phenomenal scenic views, and drive around town in a golf cart. It may not sound glamorous, but it is and it will take your breath away.
3. Yummy Seafood
You cannot leave Belize without trying shrimp ceviche and fish fritters. If my friends and I wouldn't have gobbled down our food so fast, I would have pictures. That's how good it was. Aside from those two Belizean dishes, I recommend eating coconut shrimp, plantain chips, grouper, and cheesecake. Even though you can eat these things anywhere, they're even better in Belize. For the record, the cheesecake at Coco Beach Resort is the best cheesecake I've ever had. When you go to Belize, you cannot go wrong with seafood or chicken. Don't forget to try the traditional dish of beans and rice, chicken, cole slaw, and plantains. You won't regret it!

5. Fun Historical & Outdoor Activities
The activities are the ultimate highlight. Visiting the Mayan Temples of Xunantunich and cave tubing are two historical sites that will have you in awe. Cave tubing also include a 30-40 minute hike through the rain forest. At the cave tubing site, there's also zip lining. These were the core activities that I was interested in along with kayaking and snorkeling. The tourist activity vendors have plenty of other offerings that range in adventurousness so there's something to suit everyone.
